Computer Engineering

Computer engineering comes in when rapid advances in science and technology, microelectronics
and computer science have created the need for a special kind of engineer like one in computer engineering
who can fully make full use of these technologies to design computer systems, hardware and software for real
time applications in the industry.
Computer engineering is a discipline that combines both electronics and computer science. This
would therefore require a computer engineer to possess strong analytical skills to fully understand and
enhance how the computer works, and strong application, development and design skills to tap the potential of
the computer software.
With Singapore’s Intelligent Nation Masterplan (iN2015) vision to build a technologically
plugged nation and global city, the demand for computer engineering graduates has risen significantly. This
would translate to an increase of about 6000 IT related jobs and this initial projection is expected to grow
steadily for computer engineering.
Graduates of computer engineering can look forward to joining a multitude of industries. As
the 21st century demands for higher systems security and cutting tooth telecommunication capabilities,
computers engineers are increasingly relevant in industries like software development, financial services,
wholesale and retail trade, manufacturing etc.
Our school of computer engineering provides a firm foundation for students of computer
engineering who aspire to have a rewarding professional career in the IT related industry. This program
combines a good mix of theories and practical with critical hands on experiences, in the process enhancing a
student’s analytical and practical skills. Prior to graduation, computer engineering students will have the
opportunity to be attached to corporations in the industry to have an opportunity to apply their skills and
draw the relevance between the academic theories learnt in the school and the workings of the IT
industry
