Early Childhood
Early childhood is defined as the period of a child’s life from the stages of conception to the
age of eight years old. This is because children that fall between this category learn best when they have
objects on hands that they can play and manipulate with, explore the world around them better and learn and
experiment faster from the trial-and-error within the stimulating and safe environment. After the age of
eight, they will start to view the world differently. By then, they will be able to learn concepts and
manipulate their ideas which will be useful and important to them in the future. On the other hand, they will
be less relied on the objects around them and be more independent. Hence, in terms of theory, the time period
of the first eight years presents a developmental continuum of early childhood
.
