Plant Tissue Culture

Plant
tissue culture is about the culturing of plant parts on an artificial medium. The plant parts can be a single
cell, tissue or even organs. It is amazing how a useful tool like the plant tissue culture which allow the rapid
production of the genetically identical plants with the use of minimal amount of space, time and supplies.
Basically the plant tissue culture involves taking a piece of a plant part and placing it in a specific plant
nutrient medium. The formulation of the growth medium is then changed depending if one is trying to get the
plant to produce undifferentiated callus tissue. The explants will then develop stem, roots and leaves.
The generated plantlets of Plant tissue culture are hardened before placing in outdoor
conditions.
When
the phrase of plant tissue culture comes into mind, people often have the image of scientist doing plant tissue
cultures in white gowns and masks in hospital-clean like places. The truth is that such conditions are the
extremes. It is true that mold spores, bacteria and other contaminants will grow and overrun a culture, stale
air has a minimum of contaminants.
